I'm Going Home is a piece of Shape Note music, so called because in this tradition the notes are written down with different shapes depending on pitch. This style went from 18th century England to America and is now spreading back into England, and into other areas.
In this tradition the singers are seated in a hollow square, with the tenor section having the tune. In the video you can see us rearranging chairs - the audience area becomes the tenor/tune section. We then handed out song sheets to the audience, and launched into the singing - following the tradition of singing the song through once singing the names of the notes, and then singing the actual words of the song. |
